HERON presents at ISPOR 2008 (Toronto, 5-7 May 200
We are pleased announce that HERON will be exhibiting and presenting at this year’s Annual International Meeting of ISPOR, the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research. The meeting will be held on 3-7 May 2008 and will be attended by several HERON staff from the US and UK.

Scientific Officer Dominic Muston and team compare the characteristics of four European risk-sharing schemes in terms of financial burden; relationship between reimbursement decision, access, sales and revenue; and scheme governance.

In work sponsored by Biogen Idec, Technical Lead Dr Ray Gani and colleagues reassess the cost-effectiveness of natalizumab incorporating assumptions NICE has indicated appropriate Biogen’s successful STA submission.

Senior Analyst Clare Proudfoot and colleagues extend previous work to consider the sensitivity of pooled outcome results to different search strategies.
Poster PMC21: Cost-effectiveness sensitivity to cost-effectiveness correlation: a simulation study. Muston D.
In this work, Scientific Officer Dominic Muston considers how sensitive ICERs estimated by indirect comparison from two economic studies might be to the correlations between costs and effect observed, but typically not reported, in each of the studies.
Poster PMC53: Prevalence of research focuses on genetically-linked disorders: where have we been and where are we going? Samuels E, Lock K, Karia R, Stoddart SD.
Dr Ebony Samuels and colleagues compare patterns of reported RCTs in genetically-linked disorders compared with the timing of discoveries of associated genes. Their analysis suggests that research money is not being well-targeted towards research that will translate easily to improvements in clinical practice.
Poster PSS4: The RCT evidence of comparative effectiveness and safety of topical glaucoma medication. Lee CW, Buckley F, Costello S, Stoddart SD, Kelly S.
In work co-authored with Pfizer Ltd, Senior Analyst Felicity Buckley and team describe the volume and type of RCT evidence published for topical glaucoma medications evidenced from a systematic review.
