Poster: Trends in Research into Central Nervous System Disorders: the influence of an aging population. Lock K, Samuels E
Analyst Kevin Lock and Senior Analyst Dr Ebony Samuels expanded on observations described in a previous presentation (PMC53, ISPOR 2008) concerning the influence of genetic discoveries on the number of probable RCTs in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Huntington’s disease (HD).

Poster: Huntington’s Disease: where have we been? Samuels E, Stoddart S, Lock K, Karia R
Senior Analyst Dr. Ebony Samuels and team investigated the published research in Huntington’s disease, and see if the completion of the genome project has lead to the treatments for this genetically linked disorder, as expected.

Poster: Systematic review reliability: sensitivity and specificity of one vs. two reviews. Muston, D; Alnwick, K
Head of Scientific Affairs Dominic Muston and Senior Analyst Kym Alnwick discussed the way in which a second abstract review by a different reviewer improves the quality of a systematic review of literature. This was done by fitting a statistical model to determine between-reviewer and between-review reliability and variation.

Senior Analysts Claire Proudfoot and Kym Alnwick sought to clarify the extent to which lack of utility data, which is required to calculate QALYs and is not available for some drug indications, is a problem.

Poster: Categorizing research: where is the focus? Samuels E, Plested M
Senior Analysts Dr. Ebony Samuels and Melanie Plasted explored the proportion of research being conducted as randomized controlled trials (RCTs), observational studies (OS), systematic reviews (SR), or economic studies (ES) and assess the relative proportions of each across time.
